ME 461: Senior Capstone Project
PhD. Scott Bunch
“Best Project in Automation and Manufacturing”
D.U.N.G. (Device Uplifting and Navigation Group) was my senior capstone project at Boston University, where our team built an autonomous system to safely reposition aircraft around an airport.
My work focused on controls and electronic hardware design. I played a part in designing the ESP‑32 S3 architecture, implementing various controllers, integrating IMU and encoder sensing, building the ESP‑NOW communication network, and developing the MATLAB vision pipeline for real‑time April Tag processing.
Working with pilots and real users shaped my understanding of engineering requirements, and collaborating across disciplines strengthened my communication and systems‑thinking skills.
See the attached slides and final report for more details about the project.
